Description:
The wall design was inspired by the Sarawak indigenous tribal wood carving. Took me quite some time to complete painting the wall. The majestic flower in front is Heliconia Rostrata, one of my favourite flowers, other than Sunflower.

Rhythm of the forest

When the sun sets, the forest awakes with the most beautiful rhythm. It's amazing to hear the rich symphony of the forest during the night. And when sun rises, the forest dances to a whole new rhythm. The forest is alive! And it inspired me to do this painting.

I did this painting using the combination of candle wax, pastel & watercolour. Sketching is done with pencil and candle wax on a watercolour paper, then watercolour and pastel are used for painting the artwork.

Why I create Art?

Today I'm going to share my thoughts on arts, the reason why I create art.

When it comes to answering this question, each artist has different reasons. My reason is simple. Art has always been my passion, it's a part of my life. And I desire to create something beautiful to be shared with others. It's like sharing a part of my beautiful life with others through art.

When I'm painting, I feel a sense of freedom to be able to express myself with no obstruction. It's like I'm living in my own world, the world that I created from my inner self. I also enjoy the sense of accomplishment whenever I successfully complete my painting exactly like what I have imagine and see in my mind. This is why my first solo art exhibition was titled "My Inspiration".

One valuable lesson I learned through my years creating arts is to be Patience. Infinite patience will produce a good art most of the time. In contrast, rushing to get to the finishing product always produce unsatisfactory result. Creativity takes lot's of patience to be achieved.

This artwork is created using candle wax, watercolour & pastel. Sketching is done with pencil and candle wax on a watercolour paper, then watercolour and pastel are used for painting the artwork.

All the entangled tree roots surrounding the sunflower represent all the struggle & hardship of life, and the sunflower represents hope. Which means in every challenges we faced in life, there is always hope, and at dawn of each day, there will be new hope.

International Artist Day on October 25th

Hi to fellow artists, this coming 25th of October is the annual International Artist Day. This is the tribute day for artists around the world, for their contributions to the international community through arts. Do visit this website for more details: http://www.internationalartistday.com/

Suggestions for what you could do on International Artist Day:

1. Have the Mayor of your city proclaim this day, October 25th, as International Artist Day every year. The mayor has the right to make proclamations. So a council vote is not needed. For an example of a Proclamation click into this link:

2. For a visual exposure have your local media film an interview and do an article about the Artist(s) in your area.

3. Have businesses sponsor an Artist by purchasing a painting for their lobby, or hosting a show.

4. Treat your favorite Artist to lunch or dinner.

5. With so much up and coming new talent out there, why not help sponsor an emerging artist, through a weekend workshop or fundraiser.

6. Advertise International Artist Day by downloading our logo and using it to print posters or invitations for events.

7. As a gallery owner, host an Open House with as many of your represented Artists in attendance.

8. As an individual art lover, throw a house party featuring your Artist friend(s) and their artwork, of course!

9. Host an “Art Auction” in a restaurant with a guest speaker to talk about art appreciation, art history (briefly) and the importance art plays in our society. Charge per plate. This money can be used to help sponsor new talent in the schools.

10. Send International Artist Day greeting/post cards to all your supporters to show your appreciation and thank them for honoring Artists and supporting the arts.

11. If you have any type of website, add the International Artist Day link and feature a different artist of the month, every month with a short biography.

12. Most of us drive so why not have some magnetic decals or bumper stickers made to promote International Artist Day to display on your vehicle. This would help the awareness to develop. Please visit the gift store, click on the next tab.

The vase in the middle is the first Sarawak vase I ever painted. One of my favourite flowers, the Heliconia Rostrata flowers were added to give contrast to the painting & brighten it up. Various brush strokes were applied to form semi-abstract shapes & shadows.

Two typical Sarawak vases in front were matched up with anthurium flowers, & 3 abstract shaped vases at the background. The various brush strokes in cool colours were used for shadows & subsequently giving the painting a semi-abstrast look.

A Sarawak inspired vase & bowl were placed on top of a wood carved table. Mangosteens that were placed in the bowl & on the table, together with the heliconia rostrata makes the painting even more complete & interesting. The vibrant colours of the heliconia brings in attention to the painting.

This is first painting that was exhibited in a public group exhibition 14 years ago.

My inspiration for this painting came from a photo I took of a Beethoven bust, using special effect technique. Accordingly to the photo, I painted the main 3 dimensional Beethoven bust first, then I created some abstract shapes in the background using different brush strokes. For the finishing touch, I added some shadows in appropriate places.

And there you go, my Beethoven painting as you see it now.
